Coffee Stain bullish despite underperformance of Deep Rock Galactic spinoff

Coffee Stain’s Resilience Shines Despite Spinoff Struggles

In a heartening display of adaptability, Swedish publisher Coffee Stain has demonstrated its ability to generate significant revenue despite the underwhelming performance of its recent releases. The company’s fiscal report for Q1 2026 shows a 37% increase in net sales, reaching SEK 253 million ($26.6 million). This uptick can be largely attributed to the continued success of automation simulator Satisfactory, with the console version being hailed as an “important contributor” by Coffee Stain.

Meanwhile, the company’s popular Roblox title Welcome to Bloxburg has generated a respectable $2.1 million in Q1. While these figures are undoubtedly impressive, they mask some disappointing news regarding two of Coffee Stain’s recent spinoffs: Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core and Fellowship Season 3. The former struggled to translate its initial net sales into sustained player engagement, with the company acknowledging that “player sentiment was mixed” and “engagement declined faster than expected.” This has prompted Coffee Stain to take a closer look at what went wrong and implement changes to revitalize interest in the title.

Fellowship, another multiplayer dungeon adventure developed by an external partner, has also failed to capture a significant audience. In response, Coffee Stain and Chief Rebel have agreed to scale back support for the project, reducing it from a team of 35 full-time employees to just 15 FTEs starting in Q3 FY 2026/27. This more focused approach is designed to better align development with the game’s current traction and priorities.

Despite these challenges, Coffee Stain remains optimistic about its future prospects. The company’s ability to navigate these setbacks showcases its resilience and commitment to delivering engaging experiences for players. As VR enthusiasts know, a successful portfolio requires constant innovation and adaptation – and it appears that Coffee Stain is well-equipped to tackle the ever-evolving landscape of immersive gaming.

Looking ahead, this development offers valuable insights into the importance of staying attuned to player sentiment and adapting to market trends. As VR technology continues to advance at breakneck speed, game developers must remain agile in order to meet the evolving expectations of their audience. With its demonstrated ability to pivot and overcome obstacles, Coffee Stain is poised to remain a major player in the world of immersive gaming for years to come.
