Quest 3 Beats Vision Pro ‘vastly’ in the majority of Mixed Reality Cases

Here’s what the Meta chief himself thought about Apple’s first XR headset. In a video posted on

by Zuckerberg, he explains his experience with Apple’s $3,500 Vision Pro. To him, it was already a forgone conclusion that $500 Quest 3 would be the better deal, but the Meta CEO goes on to explain why he thinks it’s simply a better product overall

.Instagram“I have to say that before , I expected that Quest

would be the better value for most people, since it’s really good and it’s seven times less expensive. But after using it, I don’t just think Quest is the better value, I think Quest is the better product period.” Continuing, Zuckerberg calls Quest “better for the vast majority of things that people used mixed reality for.”[trying Vision Pro]To illustrate, he reveals the video (embedded below) was captured using Quest 3’s passthrough cameras, which Zuckerberg compares to the high-resolution mixed reality passthrough and “big screens, just like Vision Pro.”[3]Image courtesy Meta

Zuckerberg highlights Quest’s strength when it comes to playing room-scale games, social VR applications, and fitness apps, but also mentions the headset’s overall comfort, which despite custom in-store fittings, has been a sticking point for some Vision Pro users.

“Quest

, I think, is just a lot more comfortable. It is 120g lighter than

which makes a big difference to your face. The Meta CEO points out Quest 3’s larger field-of view (FOV), brighter display, and reduced motion blur. Zuckerberg highlights the hand-tracking on Quest 3 and the higher resolution display of Vision Pro. Zuckerberg also says that Vision Pro’s eye tracking is “nice”, essentially comparing the software to Quest Pro. Meta is not directly competing with Apple in terms of price right now but Zuckerberg doesn’t hesitate to draw battle lines. I understand that some Apple fans get angry when anyone questions whether Apple will be the leader of a new category. Every generation of computing comes with an “open” and a “closed” model. Apple’s closed-model won in the mobile world. It wasn’t always this way. In this next generation, Meta is going to be the open model. I want to make sure that the open model wins out again.” The open model will be Meta in the next generation. I want to ensure that the open model is successful again.”
