There are many interesting use-cases out there: some of it is real, some is hype, and some is just plain dangerous. There’s plenty of interesting use-cases out there: some of it’s real, some of it’s hype, and some of it’s just plain dangerous.
Vision Pro is probably one of the first XR headsets out there to be a status symbol, as owning the $3,500 device pretty much means you have the sort of disposable income to also do some new and interesting things, but also some pretty silly stuff too… because
engagement. There’s more to it than just the hype. Sci-fi cosplay, dangerous attention-seeking and other things are gaining a lot of popularity. Here’s where practicality meets fantasy. What’s Real
It’s not the first thing Apple prepared Vision Pro users for, since the company wants early adopters to focus on productivity and general computing, but you can definitely play immersive games at home while your dog wonders what the heck you’re doing. Hand-tracking works great to let you do so pretty fine interactions, like picking up little virtual LEGO bricks:

It’s not just LEGO though, which would be kind of sad after you just spent $3,500 on a headset. While it’s true that VR stuff will be difficult to find since Apple February 7, 2024
, the list is growing. Games like not to support VR motion controllersBlackbox, Game Room, Puzzling Places, Super Fruit Ninja, Synth Riders, Tiny-Fins, What The Golf?,and Wisp show Vision Pro users what they can do. Apple doesn’t recommend it, but Joanna Stern, a Wall Street Journal reporter, found that the timers were a great way to cook. It also sounds like a fun way to learn how to cook too, since you can pop up tutorial videos while the souffle is… souffle-ing.You won’t find it in Apple’s marketing but the Vision Pro is the ultimate cooking computer. Was one of the moments where I could really see the future…
— Joanna Stern (@JoannaStern) You can also watch movies on a giant screen while keeping a watchful eye on your infant, which is pretty great since the headset serves up what iFixit

I adjusted the virtual screen’s angle so that I could recline and rest the head/neck. The headset can edit Hollywood films, and is more like a face-computer, than a gaming system like Quest. Director Jon Chu edited his upcoming film Wickedits deep dive teardown on Vision Pro after being stuck in the house due to flooding.

Chu, (@jonmchu), As a development platform for Apple’s upcoming XR technology, Vision Pro is sure to be used for even more innovative purposes. One such example comes from Daniel Beauchamp, the principal AR/VR engineer at Shopify, who built a prototype vacuuming mini-game to go along with the weekend chores:Chores 2.0
— Daniel Beauchamp (@pushmatrix) @Apple #VisionProThere are a ton of examples of Vision Pro users enjoying the core of the experience, which basically boils down to productivity, casual content consumption, and some light XR gaming. What’s Basically Hype?#WickedMovieHeadsets such as Vision Pro will become a powerful tool one day, when they are more powerful and can be worn all day. Vision Pro is not suited to walking around unmapped outdoor spaces #MyronKerstein due to the traffic, other pedestrians and uneven terrain. you’re sure to get stares. It’s a good test to see what the headset can do, but not practical at the moment:February 6, 2024
So yeah, grocery shopping with the Apple Vision Pro actually isn’t bad.

You could also use the travel mode to do some spatial computing while riding public transport. However, you would have to sacrifice your situational awareness and perhaps a little bit of dignity. We don’t really care what other people think of us, but if we’re flailing about and annoying fellow passengers, then we’re objectively bad. Is this telepresence or attention-seeking? Or plan attention-seeking? It’s happening… February 1, 2024

The form-factor and battery aren’t good enough for everyday tasks. While it’s one thing to go out and push both the technological and social boundaries to see what’s possible, it’s another to put others in harm’s way, which leads me to
the danger zone.
What’s Just Plain DangerousWe’ve all seen it by now. It’s worth repeating that the driver’s chair of your car is not the best place to use Vision Pro. Don’t try this at home… — TeslaPro (@TeslaPro_) Apple doesn’t suggest using it while operating a moving vehicle, and neither does US Secretary for Transportation Pete Buttigieg following the release of the video above, stating drivers must maintain control and responsibility for your vehicle even when it is in autonomous mode. Don’t try it at home… It sounds like a fun way for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to check the validity of your license. The pilot in this picture had a copilot with him, but it is scary to think that clout-chasers have wings. You won’t be electrocuted. If you get it wet you may not be able to claim under the $500 Apple Care policy. Granted, it’s more stupid than dangerous, but maybe the benefits outweigh the risks if all you’re looking for is social media engagement?Apple Vision Pool
— iJustine (@ijustine) #AppleVisionProAs you’d imagine, Apple says Vision Pro and its battery “are not designed to be water resistant. Keep your device, and its battery, away from liquids such as drinks, oils or lotions, sinks or bathtubs, and shower stalls. It is the first hardware package to deliver Apple’s powerful app ecosystem in a hardware package. Some people use it for productivity, casual media and light VR gaming. Apple is making a big bet on the future of computing. It’s now a real competitor to Meta, which was the only game in town until now. It could inform the future about what people pic.twitter.com/V6p42ZI9i0
actually want to do in XR and how they would like to look while doing it. You can bet that they are paying close attention to the media engagement as soon as their first mixed-reality headset leaves the nest.
