‘GTA 6’ Gameplay Showcase Showed VR Gameplay, But Not the Kind You Were Hoping For

The wait is finally over, and we’ve got a glimpse of what’s in store for us with Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated title, GTA 6. The developer just dropped a 26-minute gameplay showcase that has already racked up an astonishing 1.5 million views on YouTube within hours of its release. We’re not surprised – the GTA series is known for its incredible attention to detail and immersive city simulations that beg to be experienced in VR.

The new gameplay reveal shows off an entirely new level of graphical fidelity compared to its predecessor, making it practically begging to be experienced with a virtual reality headset. And we thought we had a shot at seeing actual VR support for GTA 6 – but unfortunately, Rockstar is playing it coy. Instead, they snuck in a cheeky Easter egg that’s left many VR enthusiasts feeling disappointed and a little annoyed.

At the 17:27 mark of the extended gameplay showcase, a character can be seen wearing an unmistakable Oculus Quest headset, participating in what appears to be some kind of… simulation. We’re not sure if it’s just a joke or a genuine tease, but either way, it’s clear that Rockstar is aware of VR enthusiasts’ desires for GTA 6 support. Unfortunately, we’ll have to keep waiting – GTA 6 is set to release on November 19th on PlayStation and Xbox, with no official word yet on when (or if) it will come to PC.

The lack of VR support might be a blow to some, but fans know that unofficial mods are just around the corner. GTA 5 has seen its fair share of creative modding over the years, and we have little doubt that GTA 6 will follow suit. However, with no official release date yet for PC – or even a confirmation of support – it’s clear that VR enthusiasts will be waiting a while longer to experience this highly anticipated title in all its immersive glory.

As the gaming world continues to evolve and VR technology improves, we can’t help but wonder what might have been. A GTA 6 with actual VR support would have pushed the boundaries of immersion and interactivity, allowing players to truly step into the game’s richly detailed world. Alas, it seems that Rockstar is choosing to focus on other areas for now.

For those holding out hope for a future VR port or mod, don’t lose faith – unofficial mods will likely be created by passionate fans who can’t wait any longer to experience GTA 6 in VR. But as we eagerly await the game’s release, it’s hard not to feel a little frustrated that Rockstar isn’t giving us more to work with.

What does this mean for the future of VR gaming? It’s clear that Rockstar is aware of the growing demand for immersive experiences, but also seems hesitant to commit fully. Will we see GTA 6 in VR eventually? Only time will tell – and until then, modders and enthusiasts alike will be left to speculate about what could have been.
