Three indie horror publishers faced sexual harassment claims – what comes next?

Horror Game Publishers Face Sexual Harassment Allegations – Industry Reactions Emerge

In a disturbing trend that has shaken the indie horror gaming community, three prominent publishers have faced allegations of sexual harassment. The claims, which surfaced in late 2025, have sparked a heated debate about accountability and change within the industry.

At the center of the controversy are Dread XP, Critical Reflex, and Black Lantern Collective, all of which have been accused of fostering toxic work environments where personal and professional boundaries were repeatedly blurred. Former employees and colleagues have come forward with harrowing accounts of being subjected to unwelcome advances, gossip, and emotional manipulation by company executives.

Ted Hentschke, co-founder and CEO of Black Lantern Collective, has been at the forefront of these allegations. According to several sources, including a former colleague who wished to remain anonymous for fear of retribution, Hentschke was accused of sending explicit messages to employees via Discord and Telegram while working together at Dread XP. The claims also suggest that Hentschke engaged in predatory behavior, making unwelcome advances on colleagues and disregarding their boundaries.

Rita Lebedeva, CEO of Critical Reflex, has also faced a multitude of allegations, including disparaging colleagues behind their backs, asking intrusive personal questions, and gossiping about confidential information provided by coworkers. A former community manager at the company claimed that Lebedeva sent her inappropriate messages and seemed fixated on her life as a streamer outside of work.

While both Hentschke and Lebedeva have denied the majority of these allegations, their companies have acknowledged making significant changes in response to the public outcry. Critical Reflex has stated that it has implemented new policies to prevent gossip and disparaging comments, while Black Lantern Collective has claimed to have improved its employee onboarding process and created a safer work environment.

The lack of accountability in this situation is alarming, especially given the severity of the allegations. The silence from these companies for nearly eight months has left many wondering whether any action was taken against Hentschke or Lebedeva.

As the industry grapples with the aftermath of these allegations, one thing is clear: something needs to change. The indie horror community, which prides itself on creativity and passion, cannot tolerate toxic work environments that prioritize corporate interests over employee well-being.

The questions now are what measures will be taken to ensure accountability and prevent similar situations in the future? Will the industry come together to establish clearer guidelines for reporting harassment and misconduct? And most importantly, who will speak out against bad behavior when it’s most needed?

As we look to the future of VR and XR, one thing is certain: the gaming community cannot afford to turn a blind eye to these allegations. The time has come for publishers to take responsibility for their actions, prioritize employee safety, and create a culture that values respect, empathy, and inclusivity.

The fate of the indie horror community hangs in the balance, and it’s up to us to ensure that those who perpetuate toxic environments are held accountable. Only then can we truly celebrate the creativity and innovation that this genre has to offer.
