DrakkenRidge is a retro-themed semi-open world VR adventure heading to Quest 3 this September.
Created by developer Garage Collective, whose previous VR titles include Stones of Harlath, Theta Legion and Shock Troops, DrakkenRidge entered pre-production back in 2022. You are a novice of the Mage Order and part of a long-standing organization that is responsible for policing magic. While this fantasy land now finds itself in a time of peace, the Order survives as a private militia maintaining law and order.
Playing as a Hunter, the main quest sees you operating across five uniquely themed islands known as the DrakkenRidge archipelago, working under the authority of the Duchy of Eaglemoore on Drakken Isle. Explore the islands, nine different dungeons and side quests. The game features a mixture of magic spellcasting with ancient runes. New abilities are learned through “acquiring essences”, which can be obtained from fallen enemies and bosses. You can find melee weapons such as swords, maces, axes and daggers alongside ranged weaponry, like black powder rifles or bows and Arrows. The equipment you use can be upgraded as you progress through the Hunter’s Lodge. DrakkenRidge, however, does not use billboarded images but instead fully animated low-polygon 3D models. This allows for “fully dynamic combat” according to the studio.
