HexWind is a fantasy VR action roguelite that leans into Superhot’s time manipulation mechanics on Steam and Quest.
Developed by Charm Games, HexWind originally launched in early access last year. Charm Games’ first self-published game is FORM, which you might remember from Twilight Path or Kill It With Fire VR. This action-roguelike is now available as a full release. It’s reminiscent of the PC VR gameplay captured by UploadVRSuperhot. After calibrating your arms, the roguelite’s structure is immediately apparent. You can choose from multiple routes with physicality. Simply lift your character’s figure to the next part of the board, and choosing one path means locking yourself out of another going forward.
HexWind’s combat is its most appealing feature. Instead of using more traditional melee weapons you are armed with an enchanting wand which can parry and block incoming attacks from floating skulls and skeletons. This is a unique approach that allows you to strategize. While the time will slow down without you moving, it’s not exactly
or
even beyond Superhot. Stamina is also a factor to be considered when jumping across gaps or rushing through enemies. The latter feels particularly good while pointing to move forward. The Metal soundtrack adds a nice flavor to the proceedings, too.an original ideaCollecting skull gems from downed enemies also allows you to purchase useful upgrades between missions. The tarot card equipped with this feature gives you some useful abilities, such as allowing your slash to pierce through multiple enemies, or decreasing the stamina required for a dashing attack. However, only two cards can be used at a time. The PC VR screenshots taken by UploadVRvice versaMy main complaint so far is the presentation of HexWind. The color schemes are the only thing that makes most environments look different. They are also accompanied with black, opaque backgrounds. Fonts used on your level results and stamina screen feel very basic. They look out of place at worst. Because they’re not listed currently on Steam, I cannot compare my settings to those recommended. The Quest version is also something I haven’t tried yet. Charm Games’ gameplay isn’t particularly revolutionary, but the game still has a good combat system. It’s definitely worth a try. HexWind
