Wall Town Wonders offers a charming miniature city in mixed reality

Wall Town Wonders is Cyborn’s newest offering. It transforms your home into a miniature city. Available now for Quest 3, it will turn any room in the house into an adorable mini-metropolis. In a major creative shift, Cyborn has shifted their focus away from their previously released title

‘s jaw-dropping graphics and run and guns style to a personalized and intimate style of play. Wall Town Wonders is unique in that it uses your walls to create a vibrant little town. Players can use hand-tracking technology to interact with its miniature scale residents. Wall Town Wonders, a Cyborn game that invites you to explore a world filled with creativity and fun within the walls of your home. It’s a whimsical game where players can become part of the world, with mini-games and inventive quests to keep their curiosity alive. The miniatures of Wall Town Wonders, with their vibrant citizens and diorama structures make each session a visual treat. The use of the players’ rooms to enhance the narrative elevates Cyborn’s gameplay. One of my favorite moments was when a small passenger would jump into my hands as I drove them somewhere new. As they guided me through my familiar living room, I felt like I was taking this little person on an adventure. It’s a feature that we haven’t seen before and it helped to enhance the blend of virtual and physical objects in the game. This addition is one we hope to see in more mixed reality titles going forward.

While the game looks great and is very charming, the pacing is a bit on the slow side and might not appeal to everyone. The dialogue is displayed as floating text boxes above the heads of characters. I think this design decision is unfortunate because it misses out on the opportunity to give the game a more life-like feel with voices. I found myself wishing for the miniature humans to speak up for themselves.HubrisAdditionally, Wall Town Wonders suffers from a few challenges that are, unfortunately, beyond Cyborn’s control. Meta’s tools for mixed reality are in desperate need of improvement. Multiple games have been affected by the virtual objects that don’t anchor consistently with the real world. It’s not uncommon to see items shift or appear slightly out of place from one session to the next in many of the mixed reality games we’ve been testing recently, and this issue appears in Wall Town Wonders as well.

Overall, our time spent in Wall Town Wonders was enjoyable even if the pacing was a bit slow and we’re excited to see what direction Cyborn will take for their next title, but until then… we have a lot more exploring and building to do in this one.
