There’s no shortage of shooting gallery games on any VR headset if you’ve got an itchy trigger finger. In
you can fight zombies, marauders, and even deadly produce. Spatial Ops might look like another mixed reality shooter with an undescriptive cyberpunk dystopia, yet two-dimensional screenshots can be deceiving.Arizona SunshineSpatial Ops by Resolution Games (Superhot VR, Shooty Fruity) turns your play space into a time-jumping action adventure. Spatial Ops forces you to look away from the action and keep your eyes on the screen. It’s important to have plenty of space, especially when you’re playing with other players or bots. The main campaign places a huge dock that peels away time in your virtual border. As a Special Forces agent, you must save the world against another mad scientist wearing a labcoat with his dreams of dominating the globe and male pattern hair loss. The game also features a tiny army of soldiers armed with modern weapons, which fire bullets much slower than normal depending on the difficulty setting. It’s not a very important story, but the depth it adds keeps this from just being a shooting game. Some clever moments help it stand out from the usual world domination exposition.
Your time jumper opens portals all around you, like you’re infiltrating an evil scientist’s futuristic lair as a freelancer working from home. You start with revolvers and can upgrade to a Tommy Gun, RPG or sniper weapon as you progress. The guns are very responsive and fun to wield while shooting and aiming are accurate.DemeoSpatial Ops – full gameplay clip on Quest 3Racket ClubWhat makes Spatial Ops worth playing is the multiplayer “Arena” mode, which can be played in-person with friends or online with a four digital code in solo mode or four on four. You can also play against up to seven robots, with the standard multiplayer options you would expect from a shooter. These include Capture the Flag and Domination. The game is still in beta and not open for public play, so it’s best to get a few friends together to create a code to allow you to compete against other players. The bots can be fun to snipe and dodge even though they are not as intelligent as the multiplayer bots. You are given no weapons at the beginning of each round, so you have to quickly find some. Spatial Ops is great at placing mixed-reality environment to your position so that you can duck or crouch behind things before taking your shot. If you’ve got a sofa in your room, that can provide cover from fire with shorter walls or objects, while playing alone lets you plot a grid for the bots’ movements.
