As VR gaming continued finding its feet,
offered something unique back in 2020 to the point where our Down the Rabbit Hole stated its “sheer existence seems like lunacy.” Third-person VR games aren’t unheard of, usually with platformers like review or Max Mustard, yet Cortopia Studios presented an enjoyable adventure from a diorama perspective.MossSet before Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, I’m pleased to see this gameplay premise return with a new standalone adventure, and prior knowledge of Down The Rabbit Hole isn’t mandatory. I played the
demo at Gamescom 2024 and guided Molly through a brief game. Molly is a 2.5D Side Scroller that moves using the analog sticks on the Touch Controllers. However, you can adjust your view of the environment by grabbing vines and moving the controls. You can inspect the scene in greater detail and appreciate its strong style, while also gaining a new perspective for solving puzzles. In one section, I switched from a third-person viewpoint to the first-person as I began assembling pipes using predetermined shapes and unlimited quantities. The first section was simple but boring, and I hope to see more challenging puzzles in the future. The scene can be studied closely to uncover clues. A hint system will help you if needed. Figuring this out based on environmental details works well without feeling overtly signposted, and it didn’t become overly complicated.Quest 3Carroll’s novel has seen various interpretations across the decades, and I’m curious to see what sort of story Cortopia can deliver in Wonderland this time. Escaping Wonderland is difficult to review in depth because I played it for only 15 minutes. That said, the initial signs look good.
Escaping Wonderland arrives on September 26 on the
platform and Pico.
