The most eagerly anticipated title for Meta’s VR Platform is currently “on indefinite hold”. Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta announced that Grand Theft Auto San Andreas would be coming to Quest VR headsets in 2021 at the Connect conference. Meta repeatedly declined to comment in the years since, however, and directed media to its development partners for updates.
That’s changed today in the lead up to Connect 2024 in late September with Meta officially replying about the project’s status on a YouTube video, confirmed
and independently verified by UploadVR.
“GTA: San Andreas is on hold indefinitely while we both focus on other projects,” Meta stated. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Rockstar. Meta has also delivered major VR titles since then, such as Asgard’s Wrath 2 by one of its studios acquired and Assassin’s Creed NX from Ubisoft. The company also has plans to release Batman: Arkham Shadow from one of its studios acquired, along with major third-party games like Alien: Rogue Inclusion, and Metro Awakening, this year.
