The Editor of our Reviews Revised his strategy for reviewing VR and Mixed Reality Games

Hello everyone! Henry is my name for those who don’t know me. You’ll know me best for my VR gaming news reporting. I began as a freelancing contributor and joined UploadVR late in 2022. Since our previous Senior Editor

left the team, in January, there haven’t been as many reviews posted on the website. As the new Reviews Editor, I have heard all of your comments and will be getting back to work soon. We’re also working with an amazing team of freelancers who will help us out in the months to come. We’re reviewing the way that we review some games. Videos games can easily be updated, even weeks or days after their launch. This creates unique considerations for reviews. Even if they’re sometimes revolutionary, changes aren’t often that big. Any update can make the difference between a game being fun or not. Also, we can’t evaluate what’s not yet available. This is because we can’t review a possible update, which may or may not improve the game. I’m trying to fix this problem by overseeing a greater number of reviews in progress. Our writers will return to games that are deemed a “review-in-progress” after a period of agreed time in order to revise and reassess their impressions. This won’t be done for every game, as some, such as ports of older games that have already received updates, will not need this. There are games that have a clear idea, but it is not fully realized. This information will be communicated to the early purchasers. These will be evaluated on an individual basis. We’ll continue to give early impressions, as we have for many years. We’ll likely publish shorter articles on previews, VR updates, and other smaller experiences, along with round-ups where we highlight interesting and innovative work in our lists and shows. Reviewers will now publish initial impressions of a new game and then revisit the review over time at pre-determined intervals. We’ll also note these expectations when we first assess a title. These updates could also include average player counts and matchmaking in a segment that collapses, like comfort settings. While my colleagues and i have taken a step back to think about how to best review VR content we are also seeing some major innovations in the design of mixed reality games, as well, while Harry Baker virtual reality games continue to debut on new platforms by 2024. We’re trying to explain why certain games, like

, feel a particular way on different platforms. We will continue to use the

and we won’t change our current scoring system. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about the new method in the comments section. Thank you for listening.
