Quest’s Most Popular Game ‘Gorilla Tag’ is Going Mobile in ‘Monke Mayhem’ Next Year

Get Ready to Go Bananas – Gorilla Tag’s Mobile Debut is Coming Next Year!

Gorilla Tag, the ridiculously addictive and infinitely fun multiplayer game that has captured the hearts of millions of Quest users, is finally making its way to mobile devices. Dubbed Monke Mayhem, the free-to-play sandbox title promises to bring the same level of excitement and chaos to iOS and Android players next year.

As one of the most-downloaded Quest games for several years running since its 2021 early access release, Gorilla Tag’s massive following is sure to translate well to mobile. And with a player count that will support up to 50 instances, it’s likely that the game will appeal just as strongly to teens and pre-teens on flatscreen devices.

But don’t worry, VR enthusiasts – the original version of Gorilla Tag remains exclusive to headsets for now. The studio behind it, Another Axiom, is still deep in development mode for Monke Mayhem, with broad testing expected to begin soon. At GorillaCon 2026, held during VidCon last week, attendees got a glimpse at the work-in-progress version of the game.

While mobile players will have to make do without the infectious locomotion method that has become a hallmark of the VR experience, it’s clear that word of mouth has already gotten around the playground. And with a revenue milestone of over $100 million since mid-2024 (which included around 3 million monthly active users), it’s no wonder Another Axiom is looking to tap into the vast and growing mobile market.

This move follows a recent trend among VR developers, who are increasingly looking towards flatscreen users to boost engagement. Notable examples include Vertigo Games’ Arizona Sunshine, Polyarc Games’ Moss, and Meta’s own social VR platform Horizon Worlds, which is now focusing on mobile moving forward.

So what does this mean for the future of VR? It’s clear that the industry is expanding its horizons (or should we say, its screens?) to reach a wider audience. With Gorilla Tag: Monke Mayhem leading the charge, it’ll be fascinating to see how VR fans adapt – and just as importantly, whether they can still maintain their competitive edge in the heat of mobile battle! One thing’s for sure: with this move, Another Axiom is taking a bold step into the unknown, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
