The action shooter will get a major overhaul with upcoming free updates. We interviewed the developer in order to find out more.
COLD VR is an action-packed game that was launched by Allware LLC in February. The time slows as you move. The upcoming SUBZERO Edition marks its first major update post-launch. It introduces a campaign overhaul, with five new levels and updates to existing ones, as well as visual upgrades on Quest and Steam and native bHaptics.
But the changes aren’t just limited to that. The game’s main menu and introduction scene have been completely redesigned, while COLD VR’s horror themed Backroom levels will be optional. Other changes include improved AI for enemies, as well the ability to grab weapons left by your opponents. UploadVR conducted a written interview with Carlos Alfonso Crespo, the founder and CEO of Allware, before today’s announcement. Ramirez opened up to COLD VR’s
and talked candidly about launch feedback which ultimately shaped this update. mixed reception I’ll admit it: the feedback that we received was mixed. But, it was absolutely necessary. We had a mix of issues that I wanted addressed at launch. I listened to what the VR
Community had to say about what was clunky and what did not make them want to run around. This update is based on their feedback. Ramirez believes that players were misled by the similarities between both games. The difference between COLD VR and Superhot is that COLD is a pure, unfiltered chaos, while Superhot is a measured, strategic ballet. I channeled that vibe, but it’s only a superficial similarity. The Backrooms have been made an optional challenge in order to not interrupt the main campaign flow.
The game’s pacing has been streamlined, enemies waves have been rebalanced and the levels were tweaked. We also added five new levels that give players an entirely new experience. Ramirez also said that the PC VR Edition would benefit from improved performance and visual improvements, while the SUBZERO Edition would make lighting adjustments, and update the overall look and feel of the game on all platforms. Ramirez says it’s still too early to make any comments about PlayStation VR2 or specifics such as performance targets and PS5 Pro upgrades. When it launches on Sony’s headset there will be an additional update.
I want the PS VR2 release to include a new update of content that will take COLD to even COLDER terrain.
