Apple Vision Pro testFlight halted by F1 for Lapz

The app Lapz was launched in TestFlight on July. Apple Vision Pro users can watch past and live F1 races in a virtual environment, with the driver’s position displayed on the diorama scale 3D track that is floating before them. They also get to see the views of multiple drivers from the perspective of their floating window. LePore claims that the response to the concept of Lapz was so positive, a group of developers worked together with him and created a visionOS app. Lapz, at the request from the Formula One Group has now suspended their TestFlight. If nothing changes, new users won’t be able enroll, and existing users can expect the app to expire February 8, if it doesn’t change.

Lapz hasn’t revealed the exact nature of the request. Lapz is a web-based version of F1TV, which requires you to log in with your F1TV Pro account. Lapz, which is free, does not monetize beyond the optional donations of users. This suggests it will pivot to another sport if the Formula One Group is unable to work out a deal. It would be a pity, because Lapz offers a superior experience to watching F1 racing on traditional screens.
