The revamp of Meta’s VR Animation Player allows Quest headset users to experience the power of linear, hand-drawn VR art. Meta has handed over the
creativity app, which allows artists to use Touch controllers and sketch entire VR stories with their hands. Quill, the headset’s equivalent on Quest offers an alternative way to see these works. It was originally called Quill Theater and then VR Animation Player. Now it is called Theater Elsewhere and has a one-handed remote. The six immersive environments that you can choose as your background while browsing the app are arguably superior to some Meta’s home environments. The app promises more than 2400 immersive animated works as well with a freefly mode to move through the experiences and a simple remote control interface to progress through narratives.
While the tear-jerking story Quill to its creator years ago isn’t in the app, we highly recommend giving the experience a look as well because it is a standout example of the kinds of works that you can make with Quill, and similar to the types of stories you can experience inside the Theater Elsewhere app.
requires the use of a tracked controller and can be found for free on the Meta Horizon Store, with compatibility listed for all Quest generations. Meta Quest Media Studio is the place to go if you want to add your own work to the app.
