While updating our list of the best mixed-reality games,
we came across Bomber Drone when browsing Meta’s mixed reality store. The room mesh, which the headset creates as a map to your space, is one of its most impressive features. It extends beyond any boundaries set by users. Once you have mastered the controls, they can be adjusted to suit your flying style. The intensity and action immediately increases as missile launchers appear throughout the space. As soon as the missiles start to fly, the action and intensity increase. You’re always on the move, constantly making split-second choices that keep your adrenaline flowing non-stop. Every explosion, smoke trail or missile that whizzed past me was intensified by the contrast between the virtual and the real world. Bomber Drone can also be used to interact with surfaces in your home. You can place drones on furniture or tables. This enhances the overall experience by bringing virtual objects into the real world. Bomber Drone has only five levels at the time of writing and was easy to finish. The game has a Free Roam and Outdoor mode, as well as a Discord Group to keep track of its development. The mission progression adds new enemy types over time. However, I would love to see a greater variety of rescue scenarios. Still, even in its current state, Bomber Drone leaves a lasting impression with its heart-pounding action and innovative use of Quest 3’s mixed reality passthrough.
Bomber Drone is being published by Flat2VR Studios with demos of new features for the game planned for Gamesom. Flat2VR Studios is planning to unveil a VR version of an existing flat game at the Gamesom event.
