Gorilla Tag Meets 3v3 VR Soccer

Clawball, a feline-themed 3v3 soccer game, is inspired by Gorilla Tag. We got a chance to play the Alpha build. Our impressions are below. After ARVORE’s

andPixel Ripped work, I was pleased to hear the studio from Brazil announce YUKI. This is a unique take on soccer multiplayer that makes use of arm-swinging movement. It feels like a mix-up between the Clawball and 11001010. After playing Gorilla Tag for years, I wanted to try this new game. The game is similar to soccer, in that the two teams are competing for the highest number of goals. They use a blowfish as the ball and hit it with their paws. It’s important to rotate your team as it is impossible to leave the goal unmanned. This ensures that everyone has a chance at scoring if they are ready. Clawball’s time limits are reasonable, matches do not feel overly short or long and if tied it will go into overtime. The arm-swinging movement of Clawball sets it apart. Rocket League chose teleportation to move between pads, and Clawball does not use floating platforms. The controls were a bit difficult to get used to, but moving around the arena was possible. You won’t be able to use any “ultimate abilities” or special moves like other games. The moveset is basic, and there’s little else to do. It was a bit awkward to use my arms both for movement and then hitting the ball. I’m used to games that have stick-based motion, so it felt a little strange at times. The teamwork that went into scoring goals was satisfying. The humorous post-match celebrations were also a highlight. While the winning team sprays champagne like Formula 1 drivers on the podium and the losers throw tomatoes at them, the other teams spray milk bottles. ARVORE’s Clawball long-term plan is focused at the moment on improving gameplay, before adding additional content. Power-ups, wall climbing and ranked multiplayer will not be available in the early access. Cat customization options were unsurprisingly limited for an early build, and more cosmetics will be added periodically.

Clawball targets a free-to-play early access launch on Quest this October, while the full release is planned for 2025. The closed beta will be held on
